Norwood Hospital Laboratory Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists

Norwood Hospital’s Laboratory was recently awarded Accreditation by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) following a standard on-site inspection by the organization. The CAP is the global leader in laboratory quality assurance and the Norwood laboratory is one of only 7,600 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“We are extremely proud to be recognized for the high standard of care being delivered in our lab,” said Emily Holliman, Norwood Hospital president. “We take quality control and laboratory procedures very seriously and are pleased with this national recognition of excellence.”

During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management. The U.S. government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program as being equal to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program.
