More than 100 seniors joined Mary Richardson, former co-anchor of WCVB TV’s “Chronicle,” (center) on Monday, June 3, at the Norwood Senior Center for a healthy cooking demonstration with Norwood Hospital dietitians Caitlin Melia (left) and Linda Davenport (right).
The healthy cooking demonstration was among the first of Steward Health Care’s Continue Wellness tours in the area, which targets those 65 and older with wellness-themed events. After her retirement in 2011, Richardson took on the special community liaison position for Steward Health Care. In her role, she is creating bridges between Steward’s hospitals, such as Norwood, and the communities.
Richardson said, “I love helping to educate seniors while incorporating a social community feel to this important program."
At the Norwood Senior Center, guests were treated to an orzo salad with oregano and feta as hospital dietitians Melia and Davenport explained how to pack in more flavors with herbs and other fresh ingredients, while reducing sodium intake for a healthier meal.
“Norwood Hospital’s healthy cooking demonstration was a huge hit. Mary Richardson was just delightful, as were hospital dietitians Caitlin Melia and Linda Davenport,” said Dorothy Vitale, director of the Norwood Senior Center. “The Center has partnered with the hospital to host a Healthy Eating program in the past, but never to this capacity! It was an afternoon to remember.”
